When is a metabolism slow?
The term “slow” is not quite accurate when it comes to metabolism. The term “efficient” would be more appropriate. With an “inefficient” metabolism, the body can use the calories less well.
This means that the body has less energy available for important functions in the body, such as the immune system, regeneration, strength, endurance or cognitive performance.

Four symptoms can mean a disturbed metabolism

1. You are often cold
When the temperatures outside drop, we’re all cold. But some people are real frostbites – no matter how cold it is outside. Especially their hands and feet are often ice cold. This is a warning signal from the body.
The organism runs on a low flame. Producing heat is not at the top of the priority list of survival processes.
The best antidote for this is exercise. Even if it may be difficult to pick yourself up, take a short walk or go for a run. This is how you stimulate blood circulation and you get warmer.
2. You have dry skin
Dry skin is normal from time to time. Temperature differences or warm air remove moisture from the skin. However, if the skin feels particularly rough and brittle, this may also be due to metabolism.
Try to drink more water – two liters a day are as a rule of thumb. This boosts your metabolism and, incidentally, your skin is also moisturized.
3. You have hair loss
If your body is running on low flames, then the scalp and thus the hair are less supplied. The result can be hair loss and brittle hair. However, hair loss can also have other reasons. For example, some people suffer from genetic hair loss.
4. You are often tired
You wake up in the morning and are already exhausted, fight your way through the morning until you fall into a big afternoon low at 3 p.m. at the latest? This is a classic sign of a disturbed metabolism.
With short exercise sessions, such as 15 minutes of yoga or a walk in the fresh air, you stimulate your metabolism. Exercise during the day also makes you tired in the evening and fall asleep better.
Why you have a slow metabolism
People with an inefficient metabolism often did not provide the body with sufficient nutrients over a long period of time. Many diets aim to consume fewer calories. However, this can quickly lead to an undersupply of nutrients.
Even poor or insufficient sleep, too much stress, lack of recovery, as well as one-sided and too little exercise can lead to a disturbed metabolism.

1. Lots of exercise
The best tip to get the metabolism going is exercise. It doesn’t matter whether you do a sweaty HIIT workout at home or relax with a light yoga sequence, the main thing is that you move your body.
2. Sufficient recovery
For most people, stress is an integral part of everyday life and difficult to avoid. Still, try to relax regularly. Maybe you set 15 minutes a day that only belong to you. Read a book, take a bath, or do something else that’s good for you. The most important thing is that it relaxes you.

3. Nutrient-rich foods
Provide your body with nutrient-rich foods and enough proteins, because only then can your body deliver full performance and also boost the metabolism.

4. Good sleep
Sleep at least six to eight hours each night. In addition, you should watch your sleep quality. If you often wake up at night, ask yourself why. This can significantly improve your sleep and improve your recovery. Tip: Carbohydrates in the evening make you tired and can have a positive effect on your sleep.

5. Go out into the fresh air
Spend at least half an hour in the fresh air in daylight every day. Even if the sun is not shining, your body absorbs vitamin D. Vitamin D and exercise in the fresh air can have a positive effect on your metabolism.
